Friday 5:00 - 7:00 pm: Open Practice - drop in price $30 + GST

Or $210 + GST for Friday, Saturday & Sunday

These workshops form a flexible course of particular interest to teachers, teacher trainees and serious practitioners.

Our overall intention is to broaden our perceptual field and learn to settle into a place of profound stillness from which action arises as appropriate response to conditions. The way of "not doing", listening to what is as it is in the present moment.

Our investigation is rooted in a deep reflection on notions of self, presence, being and the creationg of sacred space.

Each weekend develops specific philosophical themes and articulates around different groups of asana, kriyas, bandhas, pranayama and guided meditations. These will address structural, energetic and spiritual preoccupations and be in response to the group's level of practice, enquiry and aspiration.

In this two hour workshop style intensive, you will learn how to prepare for and enter the king and queen of all postures; head stand (Sirsasana) and shoulder stand (Sarvangasana). You will be shown how to use the appropriate props for stability and optimal structural integrity. It is recommended to have attended some hatha or flow yoga classes prior to this intensive.

Apr 30, 2010 - May 02, 2010
Day & Time Details in Description - Day & Time Details in Description

Qigong is an ancient Chinese self-healing art and energy cultivation system. The practice of Qigong increases overall quality of life, flexibility, immune function, and enables a focused mind, helping to rediscover one\'s natural energy, harmony and wholeness.

In this weekend retreat we will gently explore movement, posture and breath as well as other aspects of Qigong. There will be several periods of sitting meditation and, depending on the weather, a meditative Tai Chi walk through the beautiful surrounding forest. Invigorating NEW VINYASA PRACTICE from SANJAY’S India Travels
Oct 02, 2010
1:15PM - 3:15PM

We are pleased to welcome Sanjay back to Victoria, where he will be presenting a new style of asana. Sanjay taught Ashtanga classes at MokSana last year, but if you have not met him before you can view his bio on his website.

About this workshop:

Key components of this practice:

• Balanced approach to strength and flexibility
• Build strength and support for your knees
• Develop deep breath awareness through slow and deliberate flow
• Calm your mind and nervous system

Prana – the life force – is the essential essence of each and every one of us. Through focused breath we may begin to contact and expand this life force, our vital energy. In this new yoga practice the breath is deep and slow, guiding the movement of postures. In this way we maintain a strong mental awareness throughout the practice and start to build our pranic energy.

Physically the postures provide equilibrium for the upper and lower body, giving a strong focus on strengthening and grounding our base – the legs. There is a complete utilization of the hip joints, quadriceps, calf muscles and hamstrings which help build and maintain strength and stamina. The body is trained evenly along its front, back and transverse lines, equally developing strength, balance and flexibility. The practice challenges us further by maintaining an even flow from one posture to the next, increasing tapas – inner heat – in order to burn through our inner obstacles.

Bring a towel as you may sweat. Be well hydrated before the workshop.

Yoga for Two
Dec 05, 2010
3:00PM - 4:30PM

Relax, unwind, and have fun while practicing yoga with a yoga buddy. Remember! The important thing is how much you enjoy the postures, not what they look like externally.

All levels are welcome and no yoga experience is needed! At the core of yogic philosophy is the connection between all things. Yoga for Two allows us to explore this concept further as we help our friend/partner relax further and move deeper into yoga postures. Yoga for Two gives us the opportunity to truly connect and we are afforded the rare experience of feeling fully supported even as we provide that same support to someone else. This feeling of connectedness is relaxing for the nervous system and gives us the opportunity to be truly present with another human being. We will practice all manner of poses including balancing poses and gentle inversions.

Note: You do not need to be in a relationship to take this workshop. This workshop is taught by two very good friends -- Gillian and Jacquie. Enjoy this workshop with a friend or with a partner. Please register individually.

"Opening to Oneness" Weekend Retreat
May 28, 2011 - May 29, 2011
9 - 6

Opening to Oneness & Embodying our Deepest Essence

Oneness is our True Nature which all non-dual teachings of enlightenment are pointing towards. It is a direct experience that is perceivable and knowable because it is our own essential Nature. When all that is known and is separate is let go of, the Formless Awareness-Presence of who we really are can spontaneously begin to reveal itself.

The retreat's activities will include 6 unique Presence based workshops, silent and guided meditation periods, as well as generous breaks to enjoy walks on the sandy beach, to connect with others, or to simply enjoy the Stillness. There will also be an eclectic Saturday evening program that will include singing, chanting, poetry reading, and a campfire celebration. People are welcome to stay overnight at the luxurious Bed and Breakfast which includes a yoga studio at discounted retreat rates.

Please visit the Events page at www.MeetingsInBeing.org for full details of the retreat, workshop descriptions, and facilitator bios. We warmly invite you to share in this intention of awakening to, and embodying our Deepest Essence, and to help co-create a community of Oneness in the Victoria area.

Vikasa Yoga 200h teacher training in Koh Samui, Thailand
Sep 16, 2012 - Oct 14, 2012
Day & Time Details in DescriptionDay & Time Details in Description - Day & Time Details in DescriptionDay & Time Details in Description

Event Description:

You spend one month learning about your passion in our classic, Thai style wooden house at a beautiful and healthy setting between the mountains and the sea, recharging and even upgrading your batteries!
You get our 200 hour Yoga Alliance standard Yoga Teacher Training course which covers everything you need and more to go out and start teaching Yoga right away!
You’ll make a new network of peers, mentors, and friends that will open up opportunities and new experiences to you for the rest of your life!
You’ll transform yourself to be a person that is easier to be happy, harder to be upset, and all around wiser, fitter, and healthier.

More importantly, each of our five teachers is dedicated and passionate about what they will be teaching you. They live what they teach! This makes for a high quality course with lots of practical application, perfect for budding, soon-to-be Yoga teachers. You’ll be witnessing and experiencing yourself in new ways through practice, anatomical demonstrations, philosophical lessons…lessons that show you the subtleties of what it means to be a human being awakening into a undeniably new stage in the evolution of consciousness. You’ll also be getting lots of hands on experience teaching and assisting your fellow classmates as we compassionately guide you to be the best you can be. And, whether you plan to go on from your training as a teacher, or a practitioner with a deeper appreciation for yourself and the yogic lifestyle, you’ll be confident and energized to give a little more love to the world around you as you live a happier and healthier life.

Deciding to do a Yoga Teacher Training in Asia, especially in Thailand, has some nice benefits. Thai culture is infused with Buddhism which is an offspring of the ancient Yogic philosophies. It reflects in the behavior and character of the people here who generally tend to be very friendly and polite. You’ll find lots of inspiration visiting the Thai temples and seeing people make ritual offerings all over the place. And even though most Thai’s are Buddhist, they also incorporate the Hindu deities used by the traditional Yogis of India. It’s common to see statues of Shiva, Ganesh, Saraswati, and so on. The climate here is also just right for having a vigorous and detoxifying practice.

o Learn how to take meditation principles into your sleep
o Know how to consciously prepare for deep sleep in the hours before bedtime

“Adjustments – A Workshop for Yoga Teachers” with Ida Manly, E-RYT500

“Adjustments – A Workshop for Yoga Teachers” with Ida Manly, E-RYT500
Mar 30, 2013
10am - 5pm

Saturday, March 30
10am-5pm
$90 + hst

You’ve probably experienced a one-on-one adjustment from a yoga teacher that came at just the right moment and shifted your pose or your entire practice to a new level. Whether verbal or physical, adjustments can deepen a pose, keep injury at bay or just feel darn good! Learning when and how to adjust your students individually may be a skill that takes your teaching to the next level.

In this 6-hour workshop, we will cover why and when to adjust, different types of adjustments (verbal, physical, using props), and get lots of hands-on experience adjusting all of the major types of poses (standing, seated, balancing, twists, backbends, inversions). There is no one way to adjust students. In this workshop you will find your own relationship to adjusting and increase your confidence to approach students individually and give one-one-one adjustments.

Participants should have completed a minimum 200-hr yoga teacher training program and already have some experience teaching.

Ida Manly started practicing in 1996 and completed her 250-hr teacher training at MokSana Yoga Centre in the summer of 2006. She completed her 500-hr teacher training at the Kripalu Center in 2008/2009 and completed the Anusara teacher training immersions in 2009/2010 with Darren Rhodes and Christina Sell. She is registered with Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT500. Her teaching is influenced by her Anusara training and includes careful attention to alignment in order to create a practice that is sustainable and injury-free for a lifetime. Along with this is a passion for the benefits of yoga that go beyond the physical with influences in this area from her teachers Sama Fabian and Swami Maheshananda Saraswati. Ida is owner and director of the studio and primary teacher of the 250-hr Yoga Teacher Training Program.

Happiness is Your Birthright with Lindsey Lewis

Happiness is Your Birthright with Lindsey Lewis
May 22, 2013
1:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Happiness is your birthright. Choices that honour your essential self and bring you greater happiness will in¬evitably be better for the world. Because when you’re living your happiness, you’re living your dharma—your purpose for being on this planet. Once you begin to make conscious choices to follow your passions that bring greater happiness to your life, you’ll bring greater happiness to others and inspire them to do the same.

Let’s put it this way, courtesy of Gretchen Rubin’s book The Happiness Project: “Contemporary research shows that happy people are more altruistic, more productive, more helpful, more likable, more creative, more re¬silient, more interested in others, friendlier, and healthier. Happy people make better friends, colleagues and citizens.”

A global shift towards magnetically healthy, happy people helping make the world a better place—even if it’s simply through your revitalized presence—starts with you.

We’ll start with a 75-minute Kundalini flow yoga set. This set is dedicated to boosting your awareness of and connec¬tion to your deepest inner joy and the light of your soul: mudita and ananda. The 1-hour workshop to follow will teach you 3 top tools for tapping into your innate capacity to make choices that honour your essential self, honour and live your dharma.
$30 + tax

I quit my 9-5 former dream job to focus on living a life free from stress and full of happiness—and help others do the same. I’ve had the complete pleasure of sharing my teachings with academics at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University and employees at corporations including Business Objects and SAP Labs Canada. I’m the co-creator of the My Yoga Whole Health Programs and have been featured on Urban Rush and Breakfast Television. Pursuing happiness isn’t trite—it’s your birthright. Do you have clients or students with spinal curvatures? Did you know that when practiced correctly and with awareness, yoga can greatly benefit those with spinal curvatures? Yoga for Scoliosis for Yoga Instructors & Bodyworkers
Jun 15, 2013
1 - 5

Did you know that when yoga postures are practiced incorrectly they can worsen a spinal curvature? Do you know what to do with a student or client that has a scoliosis?

Many times scoliosis or spinal curvatures are small and undetected by the untrained eye. One RMT I work with told me that 10% of her clients have a spinal curvature and only 2-3% of them know that they have this curvature.

This workshop will cover the basic types of curvatures, what to watch for, what to avoid and how to work with students who have this condition.

We are offering a $60 early-bird price (register by June 1), $75 afterward. Space is limited.

Namaste,
Kathryn

Yogahour is a flow style of yoga that emphasizes form via shape, safety, and refinement instructions. Yogahour aims to be the most doable yet difficult one-hour flow class offered anywhere. Many yoga classes are more doable than yogahour and many are more difficult. But none are as doable and difficult as yogahour (that is the aim anyway). Each pose in the yogahour syllabus must be doable for two reasons: First, for the sake of safety, and second, so students can access the benefits. Every yogahour class must be difficult, because challenge is part and parcel to achieving the change students seek. The practice must be led succinctly and expertly. Kirtan: The Ecstatic Chant of India
Sep 25, 2013

Swami Mangalananda is an American swami currently living in India in an ashram dedicated to his guru, the wonderful Indian woman saint, AnandamayiMa. Omkareswar Ashram (www.SriAnandamayiMa.org) has sponsored a free school, providing instruction, uniforms and lodging for children who have no other schooling available. Swami Mangalananda has been touring Europe and America (and more recently Canada) for the past several years, giving benefit concerts to raise money for the school.

Swami Mangalananda plays the harmonium and sings traditional Hindu devotional songs. He has a beautiful voice, plays masterfully and introduces each number with a short explanation about the origin and meaning of the song. The audience is welcome to join in the kirtan chanting (call and response). He will be accompanied by a tabla player. After the concert a short film about the school and children's home will be shown.

Please join us for a blissful time at this free concert. Of course your gift of any amount for this worthy cause will be greatly appreciated. All those who have attended these concerts in the past have thoroughly enjoyed the music, were inspired by the stories of Ma, and were happy to support the cause.

1:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Crista Shillington loves yoga! She loves the peace and happiness that it brings her, and loves helping others to similarly discover the healing and empowering effects of yoga. She has found that yoga addresses all aspects of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being, and that acceptance and confidence on the mat reflect into daily life. Crista holds a B.A. in Psychology, and has taken additional training in Counseling and Social Work. She has been studying yoga for over a decade, and teaching yoga for 9 years. She has completed numerous Teacher Trainings: 5 Elements Vinyasa with Janet Stone, Vinyasa with Clara Roberts-Oss, Prenatal with Teresa Campbell, Foundation and Advanced Hatha Teacher Training, Silent Meditation, and Advanced Pranayama. She is Yoga Alliance certified RYT 500 and E-RYT 200, and has been a member of the Semperviva Yoga Teacher Training faculty. She loves to see students learn, sweat, de-stress, and have fun! She encourages students to be playful and open. Her classes are always creative, working toward peak poses, and include a theme in practice. She feels that yoga should be a balance between challenging oneself to grow and learn, and gently respecting one’s daily limits. She believes that every person has the ability to discover the wisdom and compassion of their own inner teacher. Come and play!

Vinyasa Krama Workshop with Whit Hornsberger

Vinyasa Krama Workshop with Whit Hornsberger
Dec 01, 2013
1:15 pm - 4:15pm

Vinyasa Krama is an ancient practice of physical and spiritual development as expounded by the father of modern yoga, Sri. T. Krishnamacharya. In this workshop we will explore the unique movement (vinyasa) and sequence (krama) methodology of this traditional system. We will also examine the four parameters of vinyasa yoga and the importance of sequencing posture, breathwork and meditation in our daily practice, as taught to Whit by Krishnamacharya’s longest standing student (33 years) Srivatsa Ramaswami.

Sunday, December 1
1:15 – 4:15pm
$45

About Whit
I discovered yoga after tearing my ACL in my last year of a five year career playing basketball for the University of Calgary. It was a devastating end to a successful career and to my childhood dream of playing professionally. Unbeknownst to me at the time, that disappointing turn of events were to open up a two and half year global journey of self-inquiry and introspection.

My teaching style derives from that inquiry and is laden with the Buddhist teachings of mindfulness and compassion which were paramount to my healing. The ancient wisdom traditions of yoga and Buddhism have been the greatest gift I could ever have received and I am eternally grateful for the long lineage of practitioners and my teachers before me who have passed this wisdom down.

As a teacher my goal is to create an experiential learning environment, whereby everyone feels welcomed and accepted for who and where they are upon their own path. For only when we accept ourselves exactly as we are, can we then begin to change. Whether we are vibinʼ out in a powerful Vinyasa practice or letting go into the stillness of a Yin class, our time together will encourage us to release the burden of responsibility that we have come to class to “fix” the body and mind. It is through this approach that together we return home to the spacious sky-like quality of the mind and the ground of non-judgmental Self-awareness.

Off the mat my practice entails surfing the most beautiful spots on this planet, worshipping the sun gods, making and listening to music, being with family and friends, and being of utmost benefit to all beings. I also love throwing the frisbee and playing croquet. I am grateful to my Guru, Mr. Cat Stevens whose music became a potent source of healing in my youth.

I look forward to seeing you on the mat as we dive into the practice of Self-inquiry.

Relaxing into Transitions Workshop – Winter Hibernation with Jenn Piercy, E-RYT500
Jan 18, 2014
1:00PM - 4:00PM

Birth, growth, stabilization, decay, death – these cycles are at the heart of our lives. From macro to micro-cycles – the yearly, seasonal, monthly, daily, and momentary – human beings move in rhythms that mirror the rhythms of the earth.

Some of the deepest gifts and insights from a yoga practice come from understanding and participating in the opportunities that each cycle presents, their unique wisdom harnessed as impetus for flowing with what is. Nature never resists the death of old cycles, knowing it makes room for rebirth.

Bulbs that contain the flowers of spring can’t bloom until they undergo invisible internal adjustments during the cold winter. During this afternoon mini-retreat, you will have the opportunity to rest and reflect, vision and dream, in a warm sanctuary of support, exploring embodiment practices (Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Meditation, Journaling), partnering your inner wisdom with the energy of Winter and preparing for the coming cycle of Spring. Take-away seasonal poetry, notes and resources included.

About Jennifer:

jenn-piercy-bio-bw_1Jennifer Piercy, E-RYT500 specializes in energy renewal through yogic practices of deep rest and reflection. She has been teaching classes in Victoria for the last decade, and is also a teacher trainer and mentor. Senior teachers who continue to inspire her are Richard Miller, Donna Farhi, and Dr. Rubin Naiman. Her practice has been particularly influenced by the natural wonder of seasonal cycles, as well as the world of sleep and dreams.
Creating a uniquely nourishing and supportive atmosphere, participants can expect to experience freedom to unwind and relax at new levels, while deepening intuition and inner sanctuary.

Yoga Therapy for the Whole Body with Erica Fritch
Jan 22, 2014
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

A six-week series January 22 – February 26

Wednesday evenings
7:00-9:00pm
$120 + gst

Many yoga students come to yoga for relief from discomfort – an injury, new or old, chronic stress, sore muscles or joints. While standard yoga poses and classes can provide enormous relief and healing, yoga therapy focuses more deeply on specific issues and areas of the body.

In this class, we explore how the body moves, what our holding patterns are, and how we can find new ways of being in our body. We will also discover some spots and movements that we did not know were sticky or challenging.
You will be moving your body in ways that you don’t in a typical yoga class. These exercises are ideal for professionals who work all day making the same movements to strengthen and relax repetitively used muscles, reducing inflammation and scar tissue. They are also perfect for yoga practitioners who want to deepen their practice in a way other than simply repeating poses over and over. Also great for yoga teachers who want to add some innovative routines to their classes.
We will work on your neck, jaw, eyes, shoulders and upper backs, hands, wrists and forearms, hips, hamstrings and feet – yes, the whole body!

Week 1 Foundations and preliminaries
Learn how to sit, stand and straighten your legs for optimal posture and strengthening. Come away with a set of preliminary exercises to use as warm up for any class or for your day. Also discuss concepts of proprioception and injury.

Week 2 Wrists, forearms and hands
We have 27 bones in each hand. That’s a lot of joints! Learn how to undo the tension that builds up from the repetitive motions we do with our hands as humans. Typing, texting, driving, cycling, holding a fork to eat – all of these actions use the same few movements. we will explore how to expand your range and direction of movement.

Week 3 Shoulders, shoulders, shoulders
Without a doubt, the biggest area of tension that is noticeable on a daily basis. Our shoulders can move in six directions. But for all that mobility, we sacrifice stability. Learn how to strengthen your shoulders and then take them through more range than you realized was possible.

Week 4 Hips, low back and hamstrings
Our hips are the largest joints in our body, and are governed by some of the largest muscles. Those large muscles are often strong and very resistant to stretch. We will safely stretch and lengthen them all out. These stretches are also very beneficial for the knees.

Week 5 Ankles, calves and feet
Like our hands, our feet have 27 bones and receive even less care than the hands. Learn a set of exercises to work out your feet tension and lengthen your calf muscles. Limited range of motion in the ankles has been show to directly correlate to lower body injuries and issues. Get your preventative medicine here!

Week 6 Core and spine
Your core wraps around your front, middle and back of the lower half of your torso. Learn ways to strengthen each portion. Then use that strength to support your back as you stretch and strengthen your lower, middle and upper back.

The Seven Portals to Wholeness & Happiness with Tersia Fagan
Mar 06, 2014
7:00PM - 9:00PM

An 8-week Series exploring the Chakras

March (06, 13, 20, 27) & April (03, 10, 17, 24), 2014
Thursday evenings: 7 – 9pm
$195 + tax

chakra man

The chakra portals are the sacred centers within that carry us on our journey toward greater awareness and aliveness. Originating in the yoga traditions of India, the seven chakras are understood as the organs of the energy body, the mysterious essence that makes us uniquely alive.

The chakra system is a theoretical model interpreted as a transformer of energy. Compared to electrical transformers, these energy portals collect the energy that flows into our bodies, and processes and transform electrical frequencies into sensations – what we experience as thinking and feeling. By understanding these energy portals, we bring consciousness to the complexity of our identities and gain insight into our true selves.

The chakra system is a map for the journey through life, representing the spectrum of human possibility. To navigate its territory is to take an exciting journey of awakening – in mind, body and spirit.

What to Expect During This 8-week Exploration

This yoga series will draw upon a variety of yoga practices, including:

 Hatha,
 Flow,
 Kundalini,
 Restorative,
 Devotional,
 Pranayama,
 Chakra Dance
 Mantra (chanting) & Affirmations
 Mudra (hand yoga) and,
 Meditation.

Reflection and readings will support the weekly exploration as we journey through the seven chakra portals. Our learning will guide our consciousness through the chakra system and reveal the universal life-lessons of our human development.

The symbolic power of the chakra portals will give us insight into the complexity of our identities:

 physical identity through self-preservation
 emotional identity through self-gratification
 ego identity through self-definition
 social identity through self-acceptance
 creative identity through self-expression
 archetypal identity through self-reflection.

The association of the elements at each chakra will help us to understand our characteristics and the constitutions of our physical bodies.

Each week, we will gather together, reflect on the learning and apply our understanding in the various yogic practices, engaging our senses, our bodies, our minds, and our hearts.

Come prepared to explore your energetic being and awaken to your true Self.

Moving from Difficult to Doable” with Fab Alberico, RYT500
Apr 13, 2014
1:15 PM - 4:15 PM

In asana as in life, repetition can transfer control of the postures from top-down to bottom-up brain circuits that risk putting us into autopilot mode. Too much of this automation leads us to the OK plateau, where we coast or stall indefinitely without progress.

The key to progress is not just mechanical repetition, but active corrective attention, tweaking the poses and adjusting their execution over and over to improve form and continue to derive the most benefits from ourpractice.

Yogahour® is a challenging hatha flow practice that offers clear and specific alignment instructions to express and experience the postures safely and with strength.

These alignment principles will change your understanding of the poses, and allow you to explore beyond whatever your current boundaries through shape, safety, and refinement. These principles apply to every asana practice, regardless of whether you practice Hatha, Flow, or Yogahour®.

Suitable for all levels – the only prerequisite is enthusias $45 + gst

Yoga: The Art of Stress-Free Life

Yoga: The Art of Stress-Free Life
Nov 19, 2014
7.30 PM - 9.00 PM

It is very difficult to define stress as it is a highly subjective experience and differs from person to person. However, one thing is certain that in modern times stress is an epidemic that is affecting all of humanity in an adverse way. And stress is not related to job alone now a days. Even children, teenagers, college students and elderly people experience too much stress in their life, which was not the situation a decade back.

Experience the beneficial effects of yoga with simple and integrated yoga practices that deal with the body, mind, emotions and psyche. The aim of the workshop is to give you lasting tools for stress management and to help you connect to the next higher level of your own evolution. Yoga is not gymnastics but a systematic approach to strengthen your body’s immune system and to focus your mental emotional energy for an integrated development and holistic growth of the personality.

All levels welcome.

Sound Healing Meditation with Larissa Saraswati

Sound Healing Meditation with Larissa Saraswati
Nov 20, 2014
3.00 PM - 4.00 PM

This sound healing meditation has been inspired by the Tama-Do harmonization technique combining sacred sounds from a range of natural acoustic instruments, focusing on Singing Bowls. Based on specific harmonies, rhythms and intervals, the soundscapes are tailored to accommodate the collective frequency and needs of the group. Progressing from the root chakra towards the higher energy realms, this scale of resonance perfectly stimulates the energies, creating a strong alignment and purification. The gentle but deeply resonating sounds may absorb your whole being into a relaxed, meditative, trance or deep sleep state; they may take you on a multi-dimensional journey or access altered states of consciousness.

Larissa’s love of life with all its teachings and her deep trust in its divinity inspired her to found “UnisonHealing”, where she dedicates her energy and being to holistic healing practices, especially sound healing. She offers private individual healing sessions, workshops and seminars and is part of the Bali Sound Healer’s Collective, performing in live acoustic sound healing events. She is a Sound Healing Practitioner, certified by the Tama-Do Academy of Sound, Movement and Colour studying with Fabien Maman as well as the Bali Sound Treatment Centre for Tibetan Singing Bowls. She is also a Quantum Trance Healing Practitioner, trained by Dolores Cannon, and studied Mediumship at the Arthur Findley Collage in the UK.

Pranayama: Creating Harmony with the Cosmic Energy

Pranayama: Creating Harmony with the Cosmic Energy
Nov 23, 2014
3.00 PM - 4.30 PM

Prana is the universal life force, the essence of all motion, and the basis of all manifestation in the Cosmos. It is the essence of life and existence itself. The yogis and the Seers have experimented with this vital life force and come up with a grand and complete understanding of its working principles and processes.

The science of Prana and Pranayama deals with the complete process of managing, activating, regulating and increasing its flow and capacity to connect us, ultimately, to the source of life and Supreme Consciousness. It gives us proper control over our body and mind, and connects us to our inner being, restoring health, vitality, insight, creativity and joy.

Learn six major Pranayama practices as mentioned in the ancient Hatha Yoga Texts. All levels welcome.

Vikasa Yoga 100-hour Advanced Teacher Training in Koh Samui, Thailand
Dec 07, 2014 - Dec 21, 2014

Vikasa Yoga is a school founded by Konstantin Miachin that focuses on the study of an integral system of yoga, as philosophy and inclusive lifestyle. Our philosophy is based on traditional concepts of hatha yoga, and classic science of yoga adapted for the modern life in western society. Regardless of your level of asana practice, this system provides all the necessary techniques for the attainment of high spiritual aspirations and excellent overall physical health. This course is considered the second part of the full 700-hour RYS Vikasa Yoga Teacher Training Program. This teacher training program will focus on advanced sequencing in hatha yoga, using rules and principles of Himalayan Vinyasa and Mandala sequencing. Different sub-styles of yoga will also be introduced with practices that challenge experienced students and are accessible to all levels of practitioners. There will be morning and evening intensives practices, where different sequence will be taught to support your capacity towards development. Precise explanations of the methodology will be given including unique tools for creation of beautiful sequences. In theory sessions we will examine the effect of such sequences on physical, energetic and informational aspects of our bodies. Some attention will be given to references from yogic texts, such as Hatha Yoga Pradipika by Swami Swatmarama and Gheranda Samhita. The lectures will include theory, history, teaching methodology and discussions. Also, more emphasis will be placed on physical adjustments. Another major topic is giving options to students in order to be able to teach a mixed level class with beginners and advanced students in one room. Each teacher should be able to give three variations of each pose while teaching a class: a base pose, a simplification for beginners, and modification for advanced students. Lastly, creation of personal programs for your students will be explained, giving you the opportunity to go beyond teaching private lessons with very limited benefits, and allow you and your students to maximize your potentials.Through daily yoga asana practice and lectures, we will explore a variety of yogic concepts and methods to create a new approach to this ancient practice. Students will be challenged to explore and expand upon their personal yoga practice in order to develop creative, conscious and intelligent teaching techniques.

Somatic Yoga Teacher Training Level 1

Somatic Yoga Teacher Training Level 1
May 22, 2015 - May 24, 2015

Learn to blend the movement modalities of Somatics and Yoga in yoga classes for Every “BodY”

Somatic Yoga relies on slow, easy to achieve natural movement patterns so that the body easily relaxes chronic muscular tension and then it can return to suppler, comfortable movement. With less strain comes less pain making it easier to go into yoga postures.
Somatic Yoga is a gentle mindful practice that combines the principles of Somatic Science and movements with Yoga. In British Columbia, 20 % of people live with chronic pain. People in our modern world experience an increased rate of pain from injuries, Motor Vehicle Accidents, technology and stress. In the middle and older years people have more chronic pain that has accumulated from their life experiences. Somatic Yoga can enhance any approach to yoga including the external and internal aspects.
Somatic Yoga is a fusion of eastern and western sciences and health practices. Somatic Yoga was created by Eleanor Criswell, PhD. It is a blend of principles of Raja Yoga, Yoga Psychophysiology and of Hanna Somatic Exercises and Education.

Vinyasa Krama - the art and passion of sequencing
Friday, Aug 21, 2015 7:00-9:00 pm $25 + GST

In this Jivamukti practice based around bird medicine, we will explore the fine art of how to go so deep, by means of breathing and mechanics of Asanas, in a sequence of movements, with an emphasis on the connecting motions that create the powerful flow we call Vinyasa Krama, or 'mechanism linking process'.
We will relate to how the body is naturally curvy is able to move in a wild animalistic way, and then we synchronize breath and motion in a specific healing way, that builds the required heat from the inside outwards, combined with our intention to purify the innermost part of our physical being. We will create a passionate and radiant form that moves easily within the matrix or breath-motion therapy.

Sacred Touch and Spiritual Healing - the power of assists lab
Saturday, Aug 22, 2015 1:00-4:30 pm $40 + GST

We will investigate the pure power of what is required to perform a proper adjustment, which we will categorize in terms of the four directions of the spine, being forward flexion (forward bending), hyper extension (back bending), lateral flexion (side bending) and rotation (twisting). We will experience the adjustments from a feeling experience rather than fixating on the layers of mechanics that tend to overwhelm the heart and mind. Here we will focus on, for example, all rotating pose adjustments, including standing, reclined and inverted, to exemplify the truth that all adjustments of the body are more related to the direction that pose is taking. This allows a simple level of relating to the energetic line of the form that is taking shape: the shamanistic approach. We are the ultimate shape shifters watching magic arise.

Sacred Sound - the power of myths, mantras, and vinyasa
Sunday, Aug 23, 2015 1:00-4:30 pm $40 + GST

Calling all yoga teachers and students, this workshop will give you an understanding of the the roots and evolution of Jivamkti vinyasa and Nada yoga. We will explore the evolution of the comsic body with sound and vinyasa into embodied meditation within the Yoga Sutras then into the radiance sutras. This mirrors inner vinyasa (the sequence of consciousness) as the soil from which flowers different paths that evolve into the embodied vinyasa of deep inner listening or Nada.

This is the workshop that will change how you practice and teach vinyasa for ever, that will bring Bhakti (devotion) back, and will create conscious orderly placement. This is the essence of life, the juice, the radicle passion. We will study the art of flight, music, and sequences that take people to the gateway of death to be reborn from delusion.

Join us for a kids community yoga camp taught by some new instructors. In this camp you can expect a yoga class to be taught at an age appropriate level allowing kids to gain the benefits of yoga in a fun, safe environment. Because they are new instructors, we have made the price point very reasonable. An experienced teacher will be in the room at all times to assist. As much as possible we ask that the small humans participate in all five days as it gets easier for them (as they learn the poses) and can see themselves progressing. This is part of the enjoyment and skill building.

The camp will run from August 24 - 28, 2015 and is broken up by age groups.
Ages 5 - 8 will be at 1:30 - 2:00 pm and ages 9 - 12 will be from 2:15 - 3:00 pm.

Relaxing into Transitions – Autumn and the Inner Harvest with Jenn Piercy

Relaxing into Transitions – Autumn and the Inner Harvest with Jenn Piercy
Sep 27, 2015 - Sep 27, 2015
1:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Birth, growth, stabilization, decay, death – these cycles are at the heart of our lives.
From macro to micro-cycles – the yearly, seasonal, monthly, daily, and momentary – human beings move in rhythms that mirror the rhythms of the earth.

Some of the most powerful insights from yoga practice come from
understanding and participating in the opportunities that each cycle
presents, their unique wisdom
harnessed as impetus for flowing with what is.

Autumn can bring feeling tones of melancholy and celebration, sadness and appreciation. It’s an auspicious time to slow down and observe our inner harvest – what we are reaping from the previous cycle, what is being received and released.

During this 2.5-hour mini retreat, you will have the opportunity to deeply rest and reflect, vision and dream, in a sanctuary of support, exploring embodiment practices (Restorative Yoga Poses, Yoga Nidra, Meditation, Journaling), partnering your inner wisdom with the energy of Fall and preparing for the coming cycle of Winter.

Seasonal poetry, notes and resources included.

Somatic Yoga Teacher Training Level 1

Somatic Yoga Teacher Training Level 1
Nov 20, 2015 - Nov 22, 2015
9:00AM - 4:00AM

Swing Yoga Intro with Nicola Aichele

Swing Yoga Intro with Nicola Aichele
Nov 28, 2015 - Nov 28, 2015
1:15 PM - 2:15 PM

Swing Yoga Intro (For first time participants to the yoga swing): Explore using a yoga hammock to enhance stretches, balance, coordination, stress-free decompressing of spine, lymphatic massage, deep tissue release and improved overall blood circulation. Explore how to work with this apparatus to benefit and enhance your fitness, yoga practice and overall well-being. Attend this class at least once before moving on to Level 1.

Please read the following information before registering and again before class to be properly prepared:

Yoga with and in a hammock suspended from the ceiling. Mostly you are grounded while moving in and out of partial and full suspensions and some inversions. The hammock is used as a tool to enhance mobility and postural alignment – freeing open the spine, pelvis, hips, shoulders and neck. This tremendously opens up the energy flow, hydration, nutrition, and intelligence throughout the body system. Classes are taught for various intentions: therapeutic, strength and conditioning, yoga posture building, decompression, circulation, mobility… including deep tissue massage, trigger point releasing, and neurolymphatic cleansing. All beginning classes will offer a variety of experiences to play with the swing and get to feel into your balance, trust and resistance… easy play through warm up, yoga postures, deep stretches, some overall conditioning work, 1-2 easy inversions and the most amazing suspended savasanna.
Just a few of the benefits to enjoy:
• Zero-compression inversions allowing circulatory and lymphatic systems to refresh while also stimulating neurotransmitters from the brain to release
• Enjoy yoga postures with support, releasing pressure on shoulders, wrists and hips while getting into the deeper stretch of chronic tight area (hamstrings, low back, hip flexors…)
• Decompression of the spine with gentle traction and hydration of vertebral discs
• Improve mobility in sacral, pelvic, lumbar, knees, neck and shoulders
• Release tension, increase flexibility, strengthen core and upper/lower body
• Improve balance, agility, posture, deep muscle tone, balanced conditioning
• Increase alertness, clarity, self-esteem, body awareness and confidence
• Have an incredible amount of fun !!!
CONTRAINDICATIONS

About Yoga Sadhna India

WHERE WISDOM MEETS LEARNING
Welcome to Yoga Sadhna India – an initiative that seeks to advance ancient yogic practice through state-of-the-art training.

Who We Are

Any successful relationship is based on trust. You must know us and have faith in our capabilities before our association begins. So, here’s some insight into who we are:

We are a team of hardcore yogis, committed to propagating the 10,000-years-old meditative culture germane to our society. We are passionately invested in practicing and teaching hatha, asthanga vinyasa and other challenging forms of yoga.
YSI is an exclusive yoga teacher training school that operates out of the peaceful township of Rishikesh, India. Founded and managed by an Indian woman, this is the only school across India to impart specialized training to those wanting to pursue yoga professionally.
Admittedly, we are a young organization. We have been in operation for just 2 years, but our wisdom is older than the proverbial elephant. We may be the tortoise in the hare-and-tortoise-tale, but our methodologies are refined and sophisticated, guided by a deep understanding of what we teach.
We are registered with the Yoga Alliance of USA, which assures you the highest standard of certification. By engaging with us, you will be earning a badge of honor and proficinety that is recognized worldwide, which will allow you to set up practice anywhere across the globe.
But this is just a statement of our credentials. What we do at YSI is more than just awarding you qualifications to be able to teach yoga. While experiencing our yogashala firsthand is perhaps the best way to understand our work, we’ll tell you a bit more about what we do.

Vikasa Advanced Yoga Teacher Training 300H Certification Course, Thailand
May 15, 2016 - Jun 26, 2016

The Advanced training course takes the yoga teacher or advanced yoga student to the next level and is suitable for both the existing teachers or just serious practitioners who would like to deepen their knowledge and strengthen their practice. The six week or 300 hour course consists of three modules, which are 100 hours each, or two weeks in duration and is registered with the Yoga Alliance. Trainees can obtain an RYT-500 certification upon successful completion of the course. In order to obtain the RYS-500 certificate, trainees are required to complete all three modules, or sIx weeks of training. However, you do not have to complete all three modules at once, you have an option to take all modules separately and complete them over a longer period of time.

First module will focus on Asana and the Art of Sequencing, and is an absolute must for any existing teachers willing to truly understand how and why asanas should be arranged for a balanced outcome, and how to teach different sub-styles of hatha yoga. The foundation course and the first module of the advanced course is the absolute minimum requirement for set out by Vikasa Yoga for asana teachers.

Second module will focus on Pranayama and Energetic Body, which, of course is an essential part of haha yoga practice and should be learned and practiced by each serious practitioner of yoga. Here the trainees will have a chance to establish a steady daily pranayama routine, learn and practice control of energy through breathing techniques correctly, including breath retentions and the energetic locks, or the bandhas.

The third module is called Meditation - the Soul and Spirit, and of course, as the name implies, will focus on more subtle mental practices, such as concentration, working with attention and awareness. Also, during this course, the practice of mudras will be introduced. Mudras are complete forms of asanas, where breath retentions, bandhas and internal orbits are used all together, therefore uniting all elements of practice and making it complete.

As you can see, the focus progressively shifts from practicing on more physical levels (asana), to more subtle levels, such as energetic (pranayama), and mental (concentration, meditation), therefore following the method. The courses are taught in the Vikasa Yoga method, which is briefly described above, and you can refer to the training matrix to see an overview of the topics covered, or proceed to a dedicated page with a full description of the course and each of the modules in detail.

The Buddhist Mind: Yin Yoga & The Four Foundations of Mindfulness with Whit Hornsberger

The Buddhist Mind: Yin Yoga & The Four Foundations of Mindfulness with Whit Hornsberger
Jan 23, 2017 - Jan 23, 2017
6:15 AM - 8:30 AM

The transformative teachings of the Buddha are becoming increasingly popularized by the rapidly growing interest in mindfulness and the practice of vipassana (insight) meditation among western yoga enthusiasts. Mindfulness is being applied everywhere and in all realms, from yoga studios to athletic training to increasing corporate efficiency. But what is mindfulness according to the wisdom of the Buddha and what is the purpose of this ideal of living completely in the now?
The practice of insight (vipassana) meditation is built upon the teachings of the Buddhist discourse, the Mahā Satipatthāna Sutta or The Great Discourse on the Foundations of Mindfulness. Colloquially referred to as the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, these teachings form the bedrock of mindfulness meditation practice and are considered the domain of the meditator. Once established through ardent application, the Four Foundations of Mindfulness carry with them the potential to dissolve greed, anger and delusion, give rise to transformative experiential insights into ultimate reality and liberate the individual from all shades of physical and mental suffering.

The integration of mindfulness meditation (vipassana) with the methodology and prac-tice of Yin Yoga has yielded life changing insights for Whit and the many students with whom he has worked via this approach. The extended stays and stillness of theYin posture practice provide a fertile and potent receptacle for the arising of insight as taught by the Buddha.

Our weeklong intensive will encompass discussion on Buddhist theory, exploring and integrating in detail the Four Foundations of Mindfulness and vipassana meditation with the practice of Yin Yoga. Each of our sessions will include discourse and application of one of the Foundations of Mindfulness to our meditation and Yin posture practice, building systematically and progressively throughout the week. Through direct felt experience each practitioner will bear witness to insights capable of radically shifting how we engage with the mind, body and life itself.

For those seeking a comprehensive understanding of vipassana meditation practice, this intensive will give rise to both an intellectual and experiential understanding of what mindfulness is, the psychological experience of Yin Yoga and the transformative power of insight (vipassana) meditation.

This intensive is created for and accessible to all levels of practitioners and geared spe-cifically to those driven by an innate curiosity for insight into the enigma of life and a passion to move beyond the limitations of the conditioned mind.

$125 + gst for 5 sessions.

Bird of a Feather
Mar 18, 2017 - Mar 18, 2017
1:45 PM - 3:45 PM

Come flock together and join me on this journey of self inquiry with the intention to leave the static of winter and open up to the kinetic energy of spring.
In this Vinyasa-based practice we will pay special tribute to the grand eagle, the king of birds “Garuda” and explore many different postures in the bird family.

Garuda (remover of poisons) is the transport for the Deity Vishnu. Vishnu is the hindu god that represents protection and preservance. Let this be a base focus to rid that which is toxic or negative in our lives, protect what is real and true to us; and leave behind anything no longer serving us. Simply tune in and be in your own body as we move through this dynamic sequence.

Expect: meditation, pranayama, mudra, chanting, and asana including binds and arm balances.

Recommend minimum 6 months of committed practice.

Weekend Workshop wtih Ann-Kathrin

Weekend Workshop wtih Ann-Kathrin
Jul 14, 2017 - Jul 16, 2017

To truly become a student, you need to find your inner teacher. To truly become a good teacher you must never cease to be a student.
This workshop is designed for anyone interested in the study of Yoga.

Whether you have been a student for many years or have just started studying yoga, whether you are a new teacher or have been teaching for some time, the purpose of this workshop is to give you a stronger understanding and foundation of the practice of yoga, enabling you to tap into your own inner teacher, and connect deeper to your own practice.

We will look at Patanjali’s 8-limbed system of yoga, and its relation to our
life off the mat, on the mat, and in meditation. As Pattabhi Jois said, its “99% Practice, 1%Theory”.

We will focus on:
-how to create and sustain a personal practice
-how to sequence personal practice session (and classes)
-what to look for and what to consider when choosing certain asanas and sequences for ourselves (or others)
-how to make safe and progressive adjustments to postures or variations to accommodate different body needs or types.
- deepen your own body awareness as well as your awareness of others to help make better more informed and efficient choices of asanas and practices.
